PhotobucketA Race – Field size 34
This was a very fast race with some good tactical racing, fun to watch. An immediate break went on the first lap including Dennis Sutherlin (ORC), Craig Duxbury (Team 19), Will Willis (ASV), and Juan Carlos Valera (ASV). This break stayed away for about 2 laps. As soon as they came back together we gave them a 2 place prime, won by Earl Bradley (ASV) and Pedro Medina (ASV). Right after the prime Todd Barczak (ASV) and Dennis Sutherlin got away in a 2 man break with about 50 meters on the field. Juan Carlos tried to bridge solo for about a lap, could not make it and fell back to the field. At 20 minutes in with the 2 man break at about 20 sec, Gary Stern (ASV) attacked on the hill and got away solo, went into his TT position and went after the break. Todd did not see him coming and continued to hammer in the break along with Dennis. Gary stayed solo for a lap until Todd realized he was coming and eased up. Just after Gary joined the break Earl Bradley (ASV) made a monster attack at the top of the hill and closed down the 20 second gap in about ½ a lap. I could not believe how quickly he made it to the break. It was now a 4 man break with a 20 sec gap on the field and 30 minutes into a 60 min race with both major teams represented. Several attacks and strong pulls were taken on the front by Steve Selby (Orlando Velo), Andy Mills (Cycling Hub), and a few others. We threw a prime to the leaders and the field at the same time, Earl took the break prime and Selby took the field prime. This break was going to stick. At 40 min we threw a prime at the field taken by Andy Maple (ORC) and Andy and Will Wills rolled away from the field but were quickly pulled back. The breakaway had now extended their lead to 52 sec and had about ½ lap on the field. At 3 to go 7 riders got away from the field, Will Willis, Neal Shepherd (ORC), Craig Creeden (ASV), Tim Molyneaux (ASV), Doug Pitts (Citrus Cycling), and Roy Foley (A.J. Bikes). This break was quickly pulled back with 2 to go. As soon as the field pulled this break attempt back, Doug Pitts tried again going solo from the top of the climb, but was pulled back within ½ lap as the field was really pushing it now. The 4 man break with Gary, Dennis, Todd, and Earl were now deciding how they would attack each other. Gary went first at the top of the hill as he took the bell for the final lap but the other three were instantly on his wheel. As the four rounded the backstretch Dennis attacked hard taking Todd on his wheel and they got a 5 meter gap on Earl and Gary. Dennis and Todd hit the final turn for the climb together but Earl pulled hard to bring himself and Gary back to Dennis and Todd, passing them on the climb. Gary came around Earl to take the win with Todd in third and Dennis in fourth. Back in the field 4 riders had gotten off the front on the final lap, could not see who. As the field climbed the hill it was Pedro winning the field sprint followed by Neal Shepherd and Tim Molyneaux.
